Arthroscopic surgery, also known as arthroscopy, is a surgical procedure to visualize, diagnose, and treat problems inside a joint using a specialized instrument known as an arthroscope.
The Pyrocarbon Implant is a cutting-edge technology designed to closely replicate the natural biomechanics of the shoulder. Made from pyrolytic carbon, a durable and wear-resistant material previously used in other orthopedic applications, this implant can extend the lifespan of a shoulder replacement. Dr. Paxton is one of the first surgeons in Rhode Island to introduce this technology.
Conventional surgical methods such as total shoulder joint replacement are not very effective in the treatment of rotator cuff arthropathy. Reverse total shoulder replacement is an advanced surgical technique specifically designed for rotator cuff tear arthropathy, a condition where you suffer from both shoulder arthritis and a rotator cuff tear.
A break in the bone that makes up the shoulder joint is called a shoulder fracture. The clavicle (collarbone) and end of the humerus (upper arm bone) closest to the shoulder are the bones that usually are fractured. The scapula, or shoulder blade, is not easily fractured because of its protective cover of surrounding muscles and chest tissue.
Providence Business News recently asked Dr. Scott Paxton to talk about some of the new surgeries he has begun performing, including the Tornier Simpliciti shoulder implant and the allograft dermis shoulder reconstruction,
We hear a lot about virtual reality -- computer-generated surroundings that make what you see right in front of you seem real. In the operating room, it's adding a new dimension for doctors performing shoulder replacement surgery.
